Policy and Procedures
Visiting the library
Students may visit the library . . .

  • With a class
  • On a pass from a teacher
  • Before school
  • During Homework Club on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons until 4:30pm. If you will need assistance with research or library resources, let Mrs. Westley know in advance.
Circulation Policy
Students may check out ...
  • Two books for three weeks
  • One back issue of a magazine for three days
  • One audiobook (Playaway) for one week

Please renew books and magazines before they become overdue.

Audiobooks
A limited number of audiobooks Playaways are available for one week checkouts.  Because these items are fairly expensive, we will let students know the approximate cost.  As with other library materials, if the Playaway is lost or damages, the student will need to pay for it.  Students will need to use their own earbuds to listen to the Playaway.

Library Catalog and Other Online Resources

The school library catalog, reference databases, and other suggested links are accessible at any time.  The subscription reference databases, such as World Book, will require IDs and passwords.  These are available in the library.

Virginia Readers' Choice

To encourage reading and familiarization with contemporary literature, each year the Virginia State Readers Association provides students an opportunity to vote for their favorite from a list of nominated titles. Students, who have read at least four of the books on their school level list, may obtain a ballot from the school library. Ballots will be available in the Spring. One way to demonstrate you have read these books is to participate in the Woodbridge Middle School VRC book discussion blog. When you have read one of the books and wish to post a comment, click on the blog discussion for that book.

This year’s Virginia Reader’s Choice middle school selections include the following:
The Black Book of Secrets, F. E. Higgins
Book of a Thousand Days, Shannon Hale
First Light, Rebecca Stead
Keeper, Mal Peet
Lawn Boy, Gary Paulen
London Calling, Edward Bloor
Miss Spitfire: Reaching Helen Keller, Sarah Miller
Savvy, Ingrid Law
The Uprising, Margaret Peterson Haddix
Wednesday Wars, Gary Schmidt
